On 31 March 2023 the AER received a submission from Tasmanian intending transmission network service provider Marinus Link Proprietary Limited, requesting the AER:
- commence a process for making a transmission determination relating to proposed Marinus Link interconnector, and
- establish a modified determination process to apply when making the transmission determination.
The proposed Marinus Link interconnector will comprise two 750 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables running 255km undersea and 90km underground HVDC cables between Burnie, Tasmania and Latrobe Valley, Victoria.
On 1 June 2023 the AER published its decision to commence a revenue determination process for the Marinus Link interconnector and the Commencement and Process Paper outlining the process that will apply for this determination.
Commencement and Process Paper and RIT-T Update
On 16 February 2024, Marinus Link wrote to the AER requesting amendments to the Commencement and Process Paper and provided a RIT-T update.
On 15 March 2024, the AER published its decision to approve the requested amendments and an updated Commencement and Process Paper.
