On 9 February 2022 the AER published its final decision, granting exemption to Iberdrola Australia SAGT Pty Ltd (Iberdrola) from notice of closure requirements in the National Electricity Rules (NER).
On 24 December 2021 Iberdrola submitted an application to provide a closure date of 1 May 2022 for the Temporary Generation South (SATGS) facility.
After assessing the performance of SATGS and consulting with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) the AER has approved Iberdrola's request. Once closed, Iberdrola proposed moving SATGS' units to a new location where they will be recommissioned before the peak summer period. As this move will allow the units to operate on gas fuel, this may allow Iberdrola to participate more actively in the South Australian market, contributing to regional competition.
