On 4 May 2020, the AER accepted an application from Total Gas & Power Australia Pty Ltd to cancel the individual exemption it was granted on 6 March 2015.
The AER, under section 20 of the National Gas Law and section 8 of the National Energy Retail Law, has a general power to repeal any decisions that it is entitled to make.
The process to cancel an individual exemption is similar to the application process. When an application has been accepted it is open to submissions for a minimum 20 business day consultation period, after which time the AER will approve or refuse the application for cancellation.
