On 18 December 2014, the AER published the final version of its revised Retailer authorisation guideline. The revisions streamline the guideline, simplifying the introductory section and providing further details to applicants about the AER's assessment process. The AER also published a notice of instrument.

Both the guideline and notice have been developed and published in accordance with the retail consultation procedure set out in the National Energy Retail Rules.

Under the National Energy Retail Law, a person must hold a retailer authorisation prior to engaging in the retail sale of energy unless exempt from the requirement). The AER is responsible for approving retailer authorisations. To support this role, the AER is required to develop a guideline to assist applicants to understand the process for obtaining energy retailer authorisations, and for the transfer, surrender and revocation of retailer authorisations.

Amendments

On May 2024, we published our final decision on making minor changes to five AER Guidelines to reflect the addition of the emissions reduction objective to the existing National Energy Objectives (NEO). We have now made these minor changes.
