On 18 March 2016, the AER published a revised version of its Exempt Selling guideline which incorporates the AER's position on innovative or alternative energy selling activities, following our comprehensive review in late 2014 and early 2015. A link to the guideline is provided below under Related content.
Background
On 18 November 2014 the AER published an issues paper in relation to regulating innovative energy selling business models under the Retail Law. The AER is seeking stakeholder comments on two potential options for regulating the sale of energy by these businesses.
The issues paper builds on the AER's final statement of approach for energy selling by alternative energy sellers, published on 2 July 2014.
Interested parties were invited to make written submissions on the issues raised in the paper and also in relation to specific questions. Submissions closed on 16 February 2015.
To facilitate discussion and ensure that the issues raised by the issues paper were thoroughly canvassed the AER held two public forums in early 2015. The AER held the forums to obtain stakeholders’ views and encourage stakeholders to come prepared to make submissions on the issues addressed in the paper.
Transcripts for both forums are available.
