On 22 March 2016, Power and Water Corporation submitted to the AER an annual pricing proposal for the Northern Territory electricity distribution network for the period 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017. This is the first time the AER has assessed Power and Water Corporation's pricing proposal since the AER took responsibility for the regulation of its standard control services on 1 July 2015. The AER's assessment of Power and Water Corporation's pricing proposal occurs under the Electricity Networks (Third Party Access) Code (Network Access Code) and not the National Electricity Rules. Under the Network Access Code, the AER is not responsible for approval of prices classified as alternative control services.
On 20 April 2016, the AER informed Power and Water Corporation that its pricing proposal was not compliant with the Network Access Code.
On 28 April 2016, Power and Water Corporation submitted a revised pricing proposal addressing the AER concerns. On 18 May 2016, Power and Water Corporation submitted an amended revised pricing proposal correcting for some minor errors.
On 27 May 2016, the AER approved Power and Water Corporation's 18 May 2016 revised pricing proposal. This was after assessing that it complied with the Network Access Code.
