VNI is defined in the National Electricity Rules (NER) as a priority project for early implementation. The VNI is a joint TransGrid and Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) project, which increases the transfer capacity of the existing interconnector between Victoria and NSW by approximately 170 MW during peak demand conditions in NSW.

This application has been lodged in accordance with clause 5.16A.5 consistent with the new ISP provisions in the NER which have been introduced to action the ISP.
