On 7 February 2025, Ausgrid submitted its contingent project application requesting a revenue increase to fund its 'Addressing Increased Customer Demand Requirements in the Macquarie Park Area' contingent project.
The contingent project application, made in accordance with clause 6.6A.2 of the National Electricity Rules (NER), relates to constructing a new subtransmission substation to address increased customer demand in the Macquarie Park area.
We invite stakeholders to make submissions on Ausgrid’s contingent project application. Submissions close on 18 March 2025.
Background
Ausgrid’s contingent project involves the construction of a 132/33kV subtransmission substation, acquiring land and establishing connection to 132kV feeders.
The contingent project application was prompted by Ausgrid receiving formal connection applications from new data centres whose demand cannot be supplied from the existing network infrastructure.
Our role is to review the prudency and efficiency of the proposed costs within the application to ensure consumers pay no more than necessary. We have 40 business days from receiving the application or responses to information requests to make our decision. We expect to make a decision on the application in the coming months.
