On 25 May 2012, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved an application from Pacific Hydro Retail Pty Ltd (Pacific Hydro Retail) for electricity retailer authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law. The retailer authorisation will come into effect on 1 July 2012.
Pacific Hydro Retail is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Hydro Pty Ltd, which operates renewable energy generators throughout Australia. Pacific Hydro Retail intends to retail electricity to large customers in the National Electricity Market, with an initial focus in Victoria and South Australia.
The AER conducted a public consultation on the application, which closed on Tuesday 8 May 2012. The AER sought submissions in relation to the applicant’s ability to meet the entry criteria, as prescribed by section 90 of the Retail Law, and set out in the AER’s Retailer Authorisation Guideline. No submissions were received.
