Use this interactive tool to work out whether each of your embedded networks require an Embedded Network Manager
From 1 December 2017, network exemption holders may have to become or appoint an ENM.
An ENM is a role accredited by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
The ENM's purpose is to assist customers in your embedded network to access energy offers from electricity retailers. This will involve:
- registering a NMI (National Metering Identifier) for the customer
- ensuring the customer's meter is accurately recorded in the national MSATS (Market Settlement and Transfer Solutions) system.
Does the embedded network at this site currently contain any on-market embedded network customers?
i.e. A customer within your embedded network that has an energy contract with an authorised/licensed retailer that operates through the wholesale market, not through onselling.
Do you hold any of the following network exemption classes for the embedded network at this site?
Deemed classes: ND1, ND2, ND10.
Registrable classes: NR1, NR2, NR3, NR4, NR5, NR6.
For descriptions of the deemed and registrable classes listed above see Classes of network exemption & applicable conditions.
Are you acting on behalf of the eligible community?
'Eligible communities' are those based in activity classes ND2, NR2, NR3 and NR4 that operate cooperative bulk purchasing schemes with the intention to share the savings of reduced electricity prices amongst all customers.
If you have exemption activity classes different to those listed above but believe you should be considered to be an 'eligible community', you will need to gain approval from the AER. Contact AERexemptionsaer [dot] gov [dot] au (AERexemptions[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au)

A list of accredited ENMs is available on the AEMO website under 'National Electricity Market Accreditation Embedded Network Managers'
Has a poll of all eligible community members decided (at least a two-thirds majority) to charge ENM costs to only the users of ENM services?
see conditions 4.7.1.1 and 4.7.3 of the Network Service Provider Registration Exemption Guideline
- An ENM must be appointed:
- When a small customer accepts a market retail offer and the cooling off period for that contract has expired; or
