This report summarises the AER's compliance monitoring and enforcement activities in the wholesale electricity and gas markets during the July to September 2017 period. It provides an overview of the results of certain investigations, targeted compliance reviews and projects undertaken during the quarter.
In this report we outline our expectations regarding compliance with critical obligations under the National Electricity Rules in preparation for the 2017/18 summer. This is in view of forecast tight supply conditions during this period.
Further to our compliance expectations ahead of the 2017/18 summer, a National Electricity Market ‘summer readiness’ checklist has been published alongside this Quarterly Compliance Report to assist market participants with their summer preparations. Market participants are asked to check their preparations against the identified National Electricity Rule obligations. Note that this information is provided for guidance only and is not an exhaustive list that guarantees compliance. Market participants will need to make a commercial decision about how best to operate, guided by private legal advice, where appropriate.
Please note the AER published an update to this summer readiness commentary and checklist in December 2019. The updated guidance is available via the link below.
