Today we released a Staff working paper on how we expect to use levelised cost of energy (LCOE) estimates as part of our approach to wholesale electricity market monitoring. The AER’s 2018 Focus for its performance monitoring functions identified that it will use LCOE estimates to assess market performance. This paper contains additional technical discussion around the expected use of LCOE and its limitations.
