On 18 November 2014 the AER published an issues paper in relation to regulating innovative energy selling business models under the Retail Law. The AER is seeking stakeholder comments on two potential options for regulating the sale of energy by these businesses.

This consultation builds on the AER's final statement of approach for energy selling by alternative energy sellers, published on 2 July 2014.

Invitation for submissions

We are now seeking submissions from stakeholders and the market generally on the issues raised in the paper and also in relation to specific questions. Submissions are due by Thursday 15 January 2015. Submissions should be emailed “Attention: Sarah Proudfoot, General Manager, Retail Markets Branch” at AERInquiryataer [dot] gov [dot] au (AERInquiry[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) with the following title in the email: Issues paper on regulating innovative energy selling business models.

We will take into account submissions in finalising our approach to regulating these business models.

The AER prefers that all submissions be sent in an electronic format in Microsoft Word or other text readable document form and publicly available, to facilitate an informed, transparent and robust consultation process. Accordingly, submissions will be treated as public documents and posted on the AER's website, unless prior arrangements are made with the AER to treat the submission, or portions of it, as confidential. Those wishing to submit confidential information are requested to:

  • clearly identify the information that is the subject of the confidentiality claim; and
  • provide a non-confidential version of the submission.
