On 24 December 2021 the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) received an application from Iberdrola Australia SAGT Pty Ltd (Iberdrola) seeking exemption from the generator notice of closure obligations under section 2.10.1 of the National Electricity Rules.
Iberdrola’s application seeks exemption to close the Temporary Generation South facility (SATGS) on 1 May 2022. Iberdrola’s application identifies that this closure will allow it to relocate the generation units and register them at a new facility, which is expected to commence operations from 1 November 2022. The AER will now commence its analysis and targeted consultation and will publish its decision by March 2022.
Generators are required to provide a minimum 42 months’ notice of their intention to close, unless granted exemption by the AER. The Generator notice of closure exemption guideline sets out our approach to handling exemption requests.
