On 2 August 2022, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved Bright Spark Power Pty Ltd's (Bright Spark's) application to surrender its electricity retailer authorisation.
The AER may decide to approve the surrender of a retailer authorisation if it’s satisfied that arrangements to appropriately manage the transfer of customers are in place. The AER may also place conditions on the transfer of customers in consultation with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
There are no conditions attached to the surrender.
The surrender will take effect on 16 November 2022, until then Bright Spark is still an authorised retailer and will need to continue to satisfy its retailer obligations.
