On 15 December 2020, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved South Stradbroke Utilities Pty Ltd's (SSU) application for an individual exemption from the requirement to hold a retailer authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law to sell energy at Couran Cove Resort, South Stradbroke Island, QLD. The AER published a final decision, along with the Instrument of Exemption.
A time extension was granted to SSU to accept the conditions in the Instrument of Exemption to 1 February 2021. SSU agreed to the conditions on 1 February 2021 (the effective date of the exemption).
Background
On 3 July 2020, the AER accepted SSU's application for an individual exemption from the requirement to hold a retailer authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law. The AER sought submissions from interested stakeholders on the application which closed on 31 July 2020. Thirty five submissions were received.
On 9 October 2020, the AER published a Draft decision and Draft Instrument of Exemption in relation to SSU's application for an individual exemption. The AER sought submissions on its Draft Decision and Draft Instrument of Exemption which closed on 10 November 2020. Twenty submissions were received.
Variation of conditions 2023
On 5 May 2023 the AER proposed to vary the conditions of SSU's retail exemption. Submissions from interested stakeholders on the variation closed 8 June 2023. No submissions were received.
On 4 September 2023 the AER varied SSU's exemption conditions to include a new condition.
