In August 2015 Urth Energy Pty Ltd (Urth Energy) was authorised by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) to sell electricity in accordance with section 92 of the National Energy Retail Law (NERL).
On Wednesday 1 February 2017, Urth Energy was suspended from the National Electricity Market (NEM) by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for failing to comply with AEMO requirements. This constituted a Retailer of Last Resort (RoLR) event under the NERL.
Under section 142 of the NERL, the AER revoked Urth Energy’s electricity retailer authorisation (AER reference E15003) on 1 February 2017. This means that, for the purposes of section 88 of the NERL, Urth Energy must not sell electricity to a person for premises in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia or Tasmania.
