On 3 June 2024, the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) received three rule change requests from the Commonwealth Minister on Requiring Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to better integrate gas market analysis into the ISP, Requiring AEMO to improve its consideration of demand-side factors in the ISP and Requiring AEMO to better integrate community sentiment into the ISP. The Minister’s rule change requests are in response to the recommendations set out in the review of the ISP carried out by the Energy and Climate change Ministerial Council.
Consultation paper
On 20 June 2024, the AEMC released a single consultation paper on the three rule change requests titled ‘Enhancing the integrated system plan to support the energy transition’.
The AER made a submission to the consultation paper on 16 July 2024.
Draft determination
On 26 September 2024, the AEMC published draft determinations on the two rule changes Improving consideration of demand-side factors in the ISP and Better integrating gas and community sentiment into the ISP. The draft rules would improve the level of detail and transparency in the Integrated System Plan (ISP), which is published by the AEMO every 2 years.
The AER made a consolidated submission to both rule changes on 15 November 2024.
