The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has an obligation to report on significant price outcomes in the wholesale electricity market. For price outcomes that occurred prior to 19 May 2022, this involves a requirement to report whenever the 30-minute price for electricity exceeds $5,000/MWh and whenever the ancillary service price exceeds $5,000/MW for a sustained period. These reports identify and describe the factors contributing to the high prices, including rebidding, network issues or changes to demand and generator availability.
