Infringement notice

Origin Energy Electricity Ltd (Origin) has paid penalties totalling $135,600 following the issuing of two infringement notices by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

The AER issued the infringement notices as it had reasonable grounds to believe Origin breached rule 31(1) of the National Energy Retail Rules in relation to Origin failing to notify two customers, within 10 business days, that it had overcharged them $4,317 and $2,885, respectively.

The AER alleges that Origin did not have adequate policies and procedures in place to detect and mitigate failures during a major IT upgrade to its customer management system.
