On 30 April 2024, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water commenced stakeholder consultation on proposed amendments to the National Electricity Law (NEL) that will provide the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and industry participants a longer-term authorisation from competition provisions in the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) to manage power system security and reliability risks associated with system works. The consultation paper specifically seeks stakeholder feedback concerning the form and content of the authorisation.
The AER provided a submission to the consultation paper on 17 May 2024.
