A key input into forecasting annual wholesale costs in the Default Market Offer (DMO) is the aggregate customer consumption profile, or load profile. In setting the DMO, we aim to use the available load profile data that is reflective of costs to retailers to purchase energy for their residential and small business customers, across the coming financial year. Historically DMOs have relied on the Net System Load Profile (NSLP) published by Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), which includes the aggregated electricity consumption of all customers with accumulation meters (basic meters).
On 4 October 2023, we published the Issues Paper for DMO 6. Subsequently we have identified impacts on the SAPN and Energex NSLP datasets which we consider to be critical to our modelling of wholesale costs for DMO 6.
We are seeking stakeholder feedback on options to produce the load profiles based on NSLP data for DMO 6. We are interested in hearing from retailers which option best reflects retailers’ reasonable costs to purchase, and manage exposure to, wholesale energy across the DMO 6 period and why. Submissions close on 20 February 2024.
