On 19 May 2006, GridX wrote to the AER requesting an exemption from the obligation to register as a network service provider.

On 9 June 2006, the AER published an issues paper outlining the issues the AER considered relevant to GridX's application and seeking fedback on whether GridX should be granted an exemption. 

The AER sought submissions from stakeholders on the issues raised in the issues paper, including whether GridX should be granted an exemption from the requirement to register as a NSP and any terms of such exemption.

In September 2006, the AER wrote to GridX requesting further information in support of their application.

In May 2007, the AER decided not to grant GridX a general exemption as sought in their application dated April 2006.
