On 20 December 2022 the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW) commenced consultation on a proposed legislative package to give effect to an emissions reduction objective in the National Electricity Law, the National Gas Law and the National Energy Retail Law. The draft Bill proposes to incorporate emissions reduction in the national energy objectives, alongside the existing components of price, quality, safety, reliability and security of supply.
The AER made a submission to the consultation paper on 9 February 2023.
