The Victorian Government has engaged the Electricity Distribution Network Resilience Review Expert Panel to conduct the second phase of a review to identify long-term measures to strengthen Victoria’s electricity distribution network. It is exploring ways that network businesses can prepare for, and respond to, prolonged power outages from storms and extreme weather events.
The Phase 2 final report is due for release in the second quarter of 2022.
The AER has also been considering the issue of resilience across the national electricity system, given our role as the economic regulator of energy networks in all states and territories except Western Australia. Our guidance note addresses some of the issues raised in the Expert Panel’s paper.
The AER made a submission in response to the consultation paper on 8 April 2022.
