On 2 July 2020, the AEMC released a consultation paper on six rule change proposals (two from Infigen Energy, two from Delta Electricity, one from TransGrid, and one from Hydro Tasmania) that relate to the arrangements for the provision of services that are necessary for the secure and reliable operation of the power system. The rule change proposals are varied in their proposed solutions, but all aim to address the issues caused by the ongoing replacement of synchronous generation by asynchronous, inverter-based generation in the NEM.
The work being considered in these rule changes is closely related to the work being progressed by the ESB as part of the NEM Post-2025 market design process.
The AER provided a submission to this consultation paper on 11 August 2020.
