AER Energy update
Release date

On 7 May 2015 the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) began consultation on a rule change request from the COAG Energy Council which seeks to allow the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to collect information for the purpose of developing connection point forecasts for each region of the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Consultation paper

On 15 June 2015 we provided a submission in response to the consultation paper. We support the COAG Energy Council's proposed rule change and consider that independent connection point demand forecasts are important to producing better informed investment and operational decisions. We consider that it is important to clarify the regulatory framework to ensure that AEMO has access to information needed to prepare high quality, independent demand forecasts.
