On 3 January 2023, SA Power Networks lodged an application for the AER to determine that the scheme established by the Electricity (General) (Prescribed Conditions) Amendment Regulations 2022 is a jurisdictional scheme.
The scheme ensures the services of Torrens Island Unit B2 remain available if needed, securing the reliability and strength of the South Australian electricity network. The establishment of a jurisdictional scheme makes recovery of costs more administratively efficient for Distribution Network Service Providers, allowing costs to be recovered through the AER’s annual pricing review assessments.
The AER must assess all requests for jurisdictional schemes under the National Electricity Rules (NER). Where a scheme meets the NER’s eligibility criteria, the AER must decide that the scheme is a jurisdictional scheme. The AER must publish a determination assessing the scheme within 20 business days or receiving the request.
