The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has made a draft decision on the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) transmission services in Victoria for the next regulatory control period from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2027.
We consider AEMO’s proposed pricing methodology is largely acceptable and consistent with the national electricity law and rules. However, we have not accepted one particular aspect of AEMO’s proposed pricing methodology. This is AEMO’s proposal to exempt energy storage systems from transmission pricing. We consider it is appropriate for energy storage systems to contribute to the costs of the transmission network if they receive regulated transmission services.
Our draft decision also sets out the principles and framework AEMO must use when providing negotiated transmission services to customers. Unlike our other determinations, we are not required to make a revenue determination for AEMO.
We are holding an online public forum on our draft decision on Tuesday 9 November 2.00pm to 3.00pm (AEDT). The public forum will allow us to explain to stakeholders our draft decision and the key issues that led to our draft decision. Interested parties will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The AER is asking interested people to register for the forum by Friday 5 November 2021 at 5:00pm (AEDT).
