AC 32/20

In December 2019, we released our Values of Customer Reliability (VCR) that outlined the dollar value customers in the National Electricity Market and Northern Territory place on energy reliability for outages lasting up to 12 hours.

We are now looking at how much value customers place on energy reliability for longer and widespread outages.

The AER has released a consultation paper and draft model to estimate the costs of widespread and long duration outages.

The model considers severe outages, which can include long periods without electricity and impact large geographical regions.

The consultation paper is seeking views on a number of matters including:

  • the scope of outages to be included in the model
  • the assumptions and settings present in estimating the additional costs of widespread outages
  • the assumptions and settings present in estimating social costs
  • the results of the modelling.

We invite interested stakeholders to make submissions responding to our consultation paper by 1 May 2020. Submissions should be emailed to: AERInquiryataer [dot] gov [dot] au (AERInquiry[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au)
