The Australian Energy Regulator has today approved the 2017–18 pricing proposal for the Tasmanian electricity distribution network TasNetworks.

This proposal leads to an approximately 20 per cent reduction in the amount of revenue TasNetworks can recover for operating its network and will help offset other factors in the market which are placing upward pressure on retail prices, such as increases in the wholesale cost of generating electricity. The AER notes retail prices are regulated in Tasmania.

The AER’s assessment included ensuring that TasNetworks pricing proposal complied with Part I of Chapter 6 of the National Electricity Rules and its distribution determination.

Approved tariffs take effect from 1 July 2017 and include new cost reflective network tariffs introduced through TasNetworks recently published tariff structure statement.
