We invite people who made submissions on our demand management Consultation Paper or are looking to engage with us on this topic to come and discuss design options for a new demand management incentive scheme and innovation allowance mechanism.

This engagement opportunity will be held in Melbourne on 6 April 2017. It will be an interactive workshop focused on incentive design.

Discussions will be based around possible options which have been informed by our engagement with you to date, including your submissions on our Consultation Paper.

This Options Day workshop will continue our transparent approach to capturing a range of issues whilst keeping with our commitment to good stakeholder engagement.

The objective of the Scheme is to encourage electricity distribution businesses to undertake efficient expenditure on non-network options relating to demand management. The objective of the separate Allowance Mechanism is to fund distribution businesses for research and development in demand management projects that have the potential to reduce long term network costs.

These mechanisms will complement our ongoing work that targets efficient outcomes and more consumer choice, recognising changes taking place in the electricity industry. This includes work on tariff reform, metering contestability, a national ring-fencing guideline, and a rule change to strengthen the transparency and efficiency of replacement expenditure.

Register to attend

We ask anyone wishing to attend the workshop to formally register to DMataer [dot] gov [dot] au (DM[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) before close of business Monday 20 March.

Spaces are limited so we request notification of cancellations and that no more than two representatives per organisation attend.
