The Australian Energy Regulator recognises that the decisions we make and the actions we take in performing our regulatory roles and other activities affect a wide range of individuals, businesses and organisations. Our vision is for our stakeholders to have the opportunity to engage with us across the range of our functions.
In line with this vision, we released our Stakeholder Engagement Framework in October 2013. The Framework sets out the principles that guide our public engagement with consumers, energy businesses and other stakeholders affected by our activities. It provides a structure that allows stakeholders’ needs and interests to be consistently, transparently and meaningfully considered in our activities, including those processes through which we reach decisions.
We are committed to continually improving the effectiveness of our engagement with stakeholders and a key element of this improvement will be evaluating our performance under this Framework. In implementing the Framework, we committed to reviewing it within three years and are now commencing this process. We are seeking views on whether the Framework is operating effectively and meeting our expectations and those of our stakeholders.
We welcome early feedback from our stakeholders to inform our consultation and review of the Framework. In particular we welcome preliminary views on the scope, principles and operation of the Framework and, importantly, about how effectively we have demonstrated these in our engagement activities and where we can make future improvements.
We will also seek to action some of the feedback we received in our 2016 Stakeholder survey through this review of our Stakeholder engagement framework.
Invitation for preliminary feedback
We intend to formally consult on the Framework later this year. Prior to this we invite interested stakeholders to provide any preliminary feedback by 5:00pm Friday 11 November 2016. Written responses can be sent electronically to SEFreview
