The Australian Energy Regulator has made a submission to the Energy White Paper issues paper. The White Paper will set out the Australian Government’s position on energy policy going forward.
The AER finds the Government’s review is timely given the major transformations that are underway in the energy sector. For example, with improvements in IT and communications in recent years, it has become feasible to allow small customers to be more closely integrated into the electricity market. The full benefits of such developments will only be achieved if the appropriate regulatory arrangements are in place. As a priority, the AER considers reforms to the way distribution businesses set and structure network prices are required.
