On 5 February 2014, the AER received an application from Tasmanian Networks Pty Ltd (TasNetworks) for a waiver of obligations under clause 7.1(a)(ii) of the Transmission Ring-fencing Guidelines (the Guidelines). TasNetworks is a new company created by the State of Tasmania to manage the transmission and distribution of electricity in Tasmania from 1 July 2014. Clause 7.1(a)(ii) of the Guidelines requires that a Transmission Network Service Provider that provides ring-fenced services must not carry on a related business, including electricity distribution.
Invitation for submissions
The AER invites written submissions on TasNetworks’ waiver application by close of business on Monday, 3 March 2014. Submissions can be sent electronically to AERInquiryaer [dot] gov [dot] au (AERInquiry[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) with the following title in the email: TasNetworks - application for ring fencing waiver.

The AER prefers that all submissions be sent in an electronic format in Microsoft Word or other text readable document form and publicly available, to facilitate an informed, transparent and robust consultation process. Accordingly, submissions will be treated as public documents and posted on the AER's website unless prior arrangements are made with the AER to treat the submission, or portions of it, as confidential. Those wishing to submit confidential information are requested to:
- clearly identify the information that is the subject of the confidentiality claim; and
- provide a non-confidential version of the submission.
