On 23 May 2012, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) received an application for electricity retailer authorisation from EDL Retail Pty Ltd (EDL Retail).
EDL Retail is a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Developments Limited (EDL), where EDL is a listed, Queensland based, international provider of low emissions, renewable and remote energy. EDL is ultimately owned by Pacific Equity Partners. EDL owns and operates 79 power stations in Australia, the United States and Europe with a total capacity of over 690MW from a range of fuel sources. EDL Retail proposes to retail electricity to large customers with a load exceeding 100MWh per year, with an initial retailing focus on Queensland and New South Wales.
The AER invites submissions on the application by Monday 25 June 2012. Submissions should be made in relation to the applicant’s ability to meet the entry criteria, as prescribed by section 90 of the Retail Law, and set out in the AER’s Retailer Authorisation Guideline.
