On 17 May 2012, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) received an application from Lions Village Licola Inc for an exemption from the requirement to hold a retail authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law. Under the new National Energy Retail Law, which is due to commence on 1 July 2012, the AER will be responsible for granting exemptions.
Lions Village Licola Inc a charity which promotes wilderness camps for disabled and disadvantaged children. It generates electricity for its own use and also sells electricity to various entities, including the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment, the Wellington Shire, and a general store. It currently has a licence exemption in Victoria, under the General Exemption Order. This will expire on 1 July 2012, when the new National Energy Retail Law comes into effect .
The AER invites submissions from interested parties on the application by Friday 15 June 2012.
