On 24 April 2012 the AER received an application for electricity retailer authorisation from Powershop Australia Pty Ltd (Powershop).
Powershop is part of the Meridian Energy Group, where activities of the Meridian Energy Group include electricity generation and retailing in New Zealand. Powershop was granted an electricity retail licence by the Essential Services Commission of Victoria in April 2011. If granted retailer authorisation, Powershop intends to retail electricity to all customer types, initially in Victoria, with later expansion into the remainder of the National Electricity Market.
The AER invites submissions on the application by Tuesday 29 May 2012. Submissions should be made in relation to the applicant’s ability to meet the entry criteria, as prescribed by section 90 of the National Energy Retail Law, and set out in the AER’s Retailer authorisation guideline.
