Ring fencing guideline

This Guideline has been superseded.

On 30 November 2016, we published our final Ring-fencing Guideline for electricity distribution which will apply across the NEM. We also published an explanatory statement to assist in understanding the Guideline and to explain why we have reached the positions set out in the Guideline. The Guideline is effective from 1 December 2016. Distribution network service providers (DNSPs) are required to comply with the Guideline as soon as it is reasonably practicable and no later than 1 January 2018.

Guideline amendment

In October 2017, we published an amended version of the Ring-fencing Guideline. This 2017 version replaces the 2016 version. The Guideline amendment process was intended to address the need for improved clarity of certain terms and definitions used in the Guideline and to address unintended consequences stemming from the way the Guideline was originally drafted. This was intended to facilitate compliance with the Guideline by electricity distributors by 1 January 2018. It did not reconsider other aspects of the Guideline or look at any broader changes.

Review

On 16 August 2019 we commenced a review of this Guideline.
