The following table sets out the exemption classes for deemed and registrable retail exemptions. There are conditions attached to each class. Compliance with all applicable conditions is a mandatory requirement in order for a retail exemption issued by the AER to be valid. R1 Persons selling metered energy to ten or more small commercial/retail customers within the limits of a site that they own, occupy or operate.
R2 Persons selling metered energy to ten or more residential customers within the limits of a site that they own, occupy or operate.
R3 Retirement villages selling metered energy to residential customers within the limits of a site that they own, occupy or operate.
R4 Persons selling metered energy in caravan parks, residential parks and manufactured home estates (also known as residential land lease communities) to residents who principally reside there.
R5 Persons selling metered energy to large customers.
R6 Persons selling metered energy to small customers at a site or premises adjacent to a site that they own, occupy or operate. 
R7 Persons selling unmetered energy to small commercial/retail customers at a site that they own, occupy or operate.
R8 Persons selling electricity as a supplementary supply through power purchase agreements (PPAs) to customers who are connected to the national electricity grid.
D1 Persons selling metered energy to fewer than ten small commercial/retail customers within the limits of a site that they own, occupy or operate.
D2 Persons selling metered energy to fewer than ten residential customers within the limits of a site that they own, occupy or operate.
D3 Persons selling metered energy to occupants of holiday accommodation on a short-term basis.
D4 Persons temporarily selling energy on construction sites.
D5 Persons selling unmetered gas to individual premises where gas is used for limited puposes.
D6 Persons selling unmetered electricity to residential customers in Queensland.
D7 This class no longer applies
D8 Persons selling energy to a related company.
D9 Persons selling energy to customers in conjunction with, or ancillary to, the provision of telecommunications / information services.
D10 Government and similar agencies, including their sub-contractors, selling metered energy to non-residential customers.
