On 5 November 2020, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved an electricity retailer authorisation application from Social Energy Australia Pty Ltd (Social Energy) under the National Energy Retail Law (NERL).
On 19 August 2022, Social Energy appointed an external administrator. The appointment of an administrator constitutes a RoLR event in accordance with paragraph (d) of the definition of RoLR event in section 122 of the NERL.
Under section 142 of the NERL, the AER revoked Social Energy's electricity retailer authorisation (AER reference E20007) with effect from 0:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time on Thursday 25 August 2022. This means that, for the purposes of section 88 of the Retail Law, Social Energy must not sell electricity to a person for premises in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia or Tasmania.
