On 14 January 2016, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved a retailer authorisation application from Enova Energy Pty Ltd (Enova Energy) under the National Energy Retail Law.
On Tuesday 21 June 2022, Enova Energy was suspended from the National Electricity Market (NEM) by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for failing to comply with AEMO requirements. This constituted a Retailer of Last Resort (RoLR) event under the Retail Law.
Under section 142 of the Retail Law, the AER revoked Enova Energy's electricity retailer authorisation (AER reference E16001) on 22 June 2022. This means that, for the purposes of section 88 of the Retail Law, Enova Energy must not sell electricity to a person for premises in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia or Tasmania.
