On 14 December 2012, the AER approved an application from ERM Power Retail Pty Ltd (ERM Power Retail) for gas retailer authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law. ERM Power Retail is authorised to retail gas as and when the National Energy Retail Law is adopted in each participating jurisdiction.
ERM Power Retail is a wholly owned subsidiary of ERM Power Limited (ERM Power). ERM Power is a publicly listed company registered on the Australian Securities Exchange, which operates electricity generation, gas exploration and procurement. ERM Power Retail is ERM Power’s electricity sales retail business, which has been operating since 2007. It is a niche retailer focusing on large commercial and industrial customers. ERM Power Retail is looking to expand its retail business to include gas.
Change of registered business name
On 11 February 2021, ERM Power Retail Pty Ltd's legal name changed to Shell Energy Retail Pty Ltd.
