The Australian Energy Regulator (AER)’s compliance bulletin – new obligations on gas pipeline, compression and storage service providers outlines:
- the new obligations on gas pipeline, compression and storage service providers (service providers)
- when the service providers must comply with the obligations
- the AER’s expectations regarding compliance.
To improve and simplify the gas pipeline regulatory framework, several significant changes were made to the National Gas Law (NGL) and National Gas Rules (NGR) in March 2023 (the reforms). In adapting to the changes, it is essential for service providers to stay updated on new obligations under the reforms.
The compliance bulletin also explains how the AER will enforce compliance under the reforms. This compliance bulletin is the first step in the AER’s compliance and enforcement strategy for the reforms and will be complementary to upcoming more specific guidance such as the Pipeline information disclosure guidelines.
