The Australian Energy Regulator has released its Retail Energy Market Update for the period 1 January to 31 March 2013. The Retail Law and Rules require the AER to monitor and report on the performance of energy retailers. This includes information on complaints, the handling of customers experiencing payment difficulties, prepayment meters, concessions, disconnection and hardship indicators.
This is the AER’s third Retail Energy Market Update and the first to include information on South Australia. The update provides a snapshot of the level of competitive activity in the South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory markets. The report also compares the performance of retailers on key indicators. Over time, as our body of data grows and the report captures more jurisdictions, we will develop a range of benchmarks with which to compare retailers' performance.
The AER’s next update will be an annual performance report covering the full 2012-2013 period and will include a range of additional indicators. The update will be released in November 2013. The first quarterly update for the 2013-2014 period will also include information on New South Wales. This will be available in late December 2013.
