Lumo Energy Australia Pty Ltd has paid an infringement penalty of $20,000 issued by the Australian Energy Regulator for enabling unauthorised persons to have access to the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) market systems.

The National Electricity Rules requires registered participants to comply with Access Procedures when accessing the AEMO’s Electricity Market Management System.

“We consider that Lumo Energy’s actions reduced the security of the national electricity market systems, potentially exposing confidential market information to the public,” AER Chairman Andrew Reeves said.

While Lumo Energy has fully cooperated with the AER’s inquiries, we will continue to closely monitor its future compliance with these requirements. The AER may issue further infringement notices or take other enforcement action should further incidents occur.

The payment of the infringement notice penalty is not an admission of a contravention of the Electricity Rules by Lumo Energy.
