Today, we released our draft decision for the Value of Network Resilience (VNR). This draft outlines our proposed approach for the value customers place on network resilience during prolonged outages greater than 12 hours. We are undertaking this review for the first time in response to a request from the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council. The AER welcomes your feedback as we refine this approach.
The AER recognises the importance of valuing network resilience, especially given the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events due to climate change. By understanding the value customers place on network resilience, we can help electricity networks plan more effectively for resilience investments, ensuring a reliable energy supply during hazardous events.
We invite all stakeholders to review the VNR 2024 – Draft Decision and share their insights. Your feedback is crucial in shaping a robust framework for network resilience. To access the draft decision and participate in the consultation process, please visit the VNR Draft Decision webpage. Written submissions should be emailed to VNR2024aer [dot] gov [dot] au (VNR2024[at]aer[dot]gov[dot]au) by 19 August 2024.
We expect to publish our final decision on the VNR in September 2024.
The AER is separately undertaking work to address standard outages up to 12 hours. Please visit Values of Customer Reliability 2024.
