On 20 May 2021, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) accepted from Telstra Energy (Retail) Pty Ltd (Telstra Energy Retail) a gas retailer authorisation application and an electricity retailer authorisation application under the National Energy Retail Law (Retail Law). Telstra Energy Retail has also lodged an application for a gas retail license in Victoria under the Gas Industry Act 2001 (Vic) and an electricity retail license in Victoria under the Electricity Industry Act 2000 (Vic). More information on Telstra Energy Retail's Victorian applications can be found at www.esc.vic.gov.au.

Invitation for submissions

We are now seeking submissions from interested stakeholders on Telstra Energy Retail's applications by Thursday 1 July 2021. We will take into account submissions in deciding whether or not to grant Telstra Energy Retail's applications.

The AER prefers that all submissions be sent in an electronic format in Microsoft Word or other text readable document form and publicly available, to facilitate an informed, transparent and robust consultation process. Accordingly, submissions will be treated as public documents and posted on the AER's website, unless prior arrangements are made with the AER to treat the submission, or portions of it, as confidential. Those wishing to submit confidential information are requested to:

  • clearly identify the information that is the subject of the confidentiality claim; and
  • provide a non-confidential version of the submission.
