The AER’s 10th State of the energy market report is scheduled for publication in late March 2017. The change in timing from previous reports (published in December) will allow a more comprehensive coverage of wholesale market activity over the summer period, which in some years has been volatile. It will also allow publication of a wider range of calendar year data. Additionally, we are developing some new concepts around energy prices and the structure of Australia’s energy market.
The State of the energy market report targets a wide audience, including market participants, policy makers and the wider community. It draws on information from a range of sources, including our internal monitoring and intelligence, regulatory reviews of energy networks, and external resources. It uses non-technical language to consolidate this material, highlighting trends and key issues across the electricity and gas industries. The report consists of a market overview, supported by chapters on the electricity, gas and energy retail sectors. It focuses on activity over the past 12–18 months in those jurisdictions in which the AER has regulatory responsibilities.
