The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has today released new data as part of its quarter three 2019-20 Retail Energy Market Performance Update.
The data covers the period from January to March 2020, and provides limited analysis of COVID-19’s impact on Australia as closures of non-essential services began 23 March 2020. Analysis on the effect of COVID-19 on the energy market will be provided in quarter four data, which is intended to be published in November 2020.
Key insights
- Tier 2 market share is 2.1% higher this quarter than in Q3 2018-19, having increased every consecutive quarter since then.
- 93 963 customers were on payment plans this quarter, a substantial increase from the 75 601 on payment plans in the previous quarter.
- Referrals for credit collection have fallen from 53 429 for the same time last year to 43 709 this quarter.
- The number of disconnections for non-payment fell to 15 353 compared to 16 726 for the same period last year
